Three levels of 500 words, from the most common to the least common. Each level has 20 units of 25 words. Every unit has a word list, a matching game and sentence completion. A review with reading passages follows every five units.
ETS does not publish which words appear on the TOEFL, and real tests are copyrighted rather than public domain. The words here are common in TOEFL-style academic reading and in the Academic Word List (Coxhead, 2000). The levels rank them by an editorial estimate of how often they are used in general English.
